A Time-Honoured Christmas Tradition
As the weather gets a little colder and winter takes hold, Christmas time festivities put a swing in the collective step with the promise of food, revelry and family time. Celebrate this holiday season with the Children's Ballet of San Antonio's annual Nutcracker Ballet, a time-honoured festive tradition that casts budding young local dancers from the ages three to nineteen, as well as established professional dancers and special needs performers.
Directed by the company's award winning Artistic Director Vanessa Bessler and set to the soaring sounds of Tchaikovsky, the children come together to perform the magical story of pint-sized heroine Clara, who embarks on a whirlwind journey when she's given a Nutcracker doll on Christmas eve. When the doll and a host of other toys come to life, an action-packed battle between them ensues, so Clara steps in and takes on the fearsome Mouse King. With the battle won, she and her Nutcracker prince journey to a faraway land where the Sugar Plum fairy reigns.
